Dogs do amazing things for us, and Zeus is making Portland safer for us. Zeus is trained to detect hydrocarbons found in petroleum-based fuel and accelerants in exchange for a tasty treat. His powerful nose is a valuable tool for investigators that helps to build charges against suspected arsonists.
Accelerant detection canines are trained to sniff out minute traces of accelerants (gasoline, lighter fluid, etc.) that may have been used to start a fire. Each dog works and lives with their handler, a law enforcement officer or firefighter trained to investigate fire scenes.
Zeus is assigned to Lt. Jackson, and will assist Jackson in determining the origin and cause of a fire. Anything Zeus discovers is verified by the state crime lab.
